The grand adventure

Hello, fellow foodies!

I’m a firm believer that the past isn’t just some old, dusty thing—it’s the secret ingredient that gives our present-day cooking a little extra soul.

When my father in law passed, I became the proud owner of a vintage set of Encyclopedias of Cooking, originally written in 1945.

They’re not from some glamorous culinary school library, mind you - these are the kind of encyclopedias that have probably propped up wobbly dining tables for decades. The kind that smell like old paper and faint whispers of recipes long forgotten.

I’m inviting you to join me on a cooking adventure, straight from the A's to the Z's of a mid-century encyclopedia. We'll find out if these recipes still hold up. We’ll learn about what our foremothers were cooking and how they made it all work. And we'll figure out if any of this knowledge could help us in a pinch—you know, if the power ever goes out or the internet decides to take a permanent coffee break.

So let’s get our hands dirty and our aprons tied. We'll laugh at the inevitable flops, celebrate the unexpected wins, and remember that no matter what the world throws at us, a good recipe and a solid understanding of our ingredients are always in style.
Let the fun begin!
Vicky
